Either star Georgia running back Todd Gurley has been enjoying himself one too many Pokey Stix, or he is seriously committed to being the best player at his position in the nation in 2013.

Only a wee freshman in 2012, Gurley starred as one half (along with fellow frosh Keith Marshall) of the Bulldogs’ deadly rushing combination that became known to fans simply as “Gurshall.”

However, as a sophomore, Gurley may find himself too big to fit into any nicknames with any other player. That’s what happens when, according to reports, you put on roughly 40 pounds in a matter of just a few months.

Uber-talented #Georgia RB Todd Gurley was listed at 195-pounds last year as a freshman…This season? Listed at 232 pounds

That is a lot of protein powder. We’re going to go ahead and assume it’s all good weight, and not actually any Pokey Stix.

Gurley rushed for 1,385 yards on 222 carries in 2012, good for a robust 6.24 yards per carry average. Obviously, he is looking for even more as a sophomore — and his added bulk could wind up being what moves him into the upper echelon of the college game.

His added size could also be the difference between an SEC East title and an SEC Championship for the Dawgs.

Don’t worry about Marshall: Coach Richt will be getting both players on the field in 2013
