Five-star DT Lamont Gaillard favors Georgia, has eliminated Florida

Despite having one of the highest-rated recruiting classes in the nation in 2013, Georgia coach Mark Richt came under a little fire for failing to bring in a single five-star prospect — college football fans can be a tough crowd to please sometimes.

Luckily for Richt, as well as those who find his recruiting tactics less than stellar, the team may be bringing in its first five-star guy early in the 2014 cycle.

Lemont Gaillard is rated the No. 2 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 1 player in the entire state of North Carolina by ESPN. At 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, Gaillard has already garnered offers from all the big names, including Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State and others.

However, he has Georgia at the top of his list, and it does not look like that is going to change any time soon.

This according to ESPN RecruitingNation’s Kipp Adams:

The Bulldogs are the outright leaders for the No. 10 prospect in the country, taking the top spot from Florida after a miscommunication in April with the Gators’ coaching staff led to them getting eliminated from consideration. Schools such as Clemson, LSU and South Carolina could get visits from Gaillard in the next two months, as he is looking to see if any program can shock him and overtake Georgia. But the Bulldogs are likely to get a return visit from the five-star defensive lineman, and a possible summer decision could give Georgia its first five-star commitment in the class.

While the attention is going to be on Gaillard moving forward, Richt has been an extremely busy man on the recruiting trail. Christian Miller, a 6-foot-4, 212-pound linebacker, de-committed from Florida and immediately drew a scholarship offer from the Bulldogs.

Running back Nick Chubb, linebackers Korie Rodgers and Keyon Brown, and offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn are a few other names to keep an eye on as the recruiting train rolls on.
